BIOGRAPHY

Kansas City native, DSTRK (pronounced “District”) is gearing up to release his debut EP later this year via tastemaker label Mensch House Records, home of Common Kings, Sammy Johnson, and more.

DSTRK hails from Kansas City, KS, and is an artist that reps his city strongly. He gets his name from his hometown school district, District 500. Formerly known as Gabe Roland, DSTRK says, “I go by DSTRK to honor every school teacher, pastor, parent, aunt, uncle, and mentor that has helped mode me into the person I am today. I took out the letter "I" because "I" could have never made it on my own. The K at the end is for Kansas City Kansas.”

On his forthcoming 6-song project, DSTRK invites you into the mind of a creative. On each track, he showcases his ability to not only make a song, but an anthem. With this project, DSTRK said, “I want to create moments that invoke a feeling every time someone hears my music that takes them on a journey. It's a vibe in every aspect.” Every song highlights DSTRK's producing and songwriting ability. He delivers a contagious vibe on the hypnotic record, “Runway,” while demonstrating his explosive lyrical flow on “Blurry Curry.”

"This project is giving a brand new perspective into who I am as an artist and inviting people into the mind of a creative.  I love music so fucking much and every part of it that it's really hard to express myself through one style so I decided to do every style and mix it together like gumbo. DSTRK is the introduction to the next one up." he said. "I recorded everything at my apartment right in my closet. I produce and write all of my material. It's the best studio. I feel like it doesn't take the same process that it use to before to create a great project. Today all you need is a laptop and imagination. I love being able to move at my pace when I have an idea and not having to wait on anyone or anything when I’m ready to go."

DSTRK burst onto the scene with the release of his first single “Hol Up. DSTRK displays a relentless flow on this catchy new record. His motivation in making this track as well as the entire EP is “to set a trail and bring something to the game that's been missing.”

DSTRK followed that up with another explosive single called "BRDS I VIEW". The track's melodies will be stuck inside of the listener's brains as the beat drips for DSTRK to spit about love, chemistry, and energy.

"The song 'BRDS I VIEW' is a song about seeing it from my love interests’ perspective and taking it a step further by raising both of our viewpoints," he commented. "Birds normally fly higher so they tend to see the whole picture versus when you’re stuck in the middle of it and all you can see is whatever is front of you. This song is my attempt to say 'I see you now let’s both see the bigger picture'.”

In closing, DISTRK says, "I saw an interview with Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo from the Neptunes being interviewed with Tyler the Creator and Justin Timberlake and the main take away was to follow the vibe and not overthink the creativity of what you're trying to make. That interview really inspired me to create my vibe and follow it. I see scenes when I create. I see the crowds singing every word. I see the performance at the concert. I see the stage lights and the pyrotechnics. I see the choreography. I want to create moments that invoke a feeling every time someone hears my music that takes them on a journey. It's a vibe in every aspect."
